Scrapstasher's April Project!

We had such a great time at our April Scrapstasher's Anonymous Meetings! Spring Fever has definitely taken me over after seeing all of the lovely green grass return and beautiful blossoms popping up everywhere! This fresh breath of Spring inspired me to transform some ordinary terra cotta flower pots using my stash of paper, buttons, trims, vintage finds, etc. Take a look... I love how this one turned out! I simply tore pages out of an old book and decoupaged them all over my pot using Mod Podge to adhere. I then spritzed my pot with Glimmer Mists and added a little Distress Ink to add interest and dimension...not to mention the lovely shimmer effect that the Glimmer Mist adds! Notice some of the patchy areas...this occurred because some of the mod podge seaps out when you add the pages to the pot and this created a resist. So when the Glimmer Mists and Ink went on, it didn't take in those areas. This created such a wonderful distressed effect! To add a little touch of Spring, I cut out some butterflies from a piece of Scrapbook Paper and decoupaged them in random areas around my pot. To finish it off, I added 2 more coats of glossy Mod Podge to seal it.

Here's another great way to use your paper scraps...
On this pot, I created a faux mosaic look by simply cutting my paper scraps into various shapes and adhering them to the pot with Mod Podge. To add more depth, be sure to ink the edges of your paper pieces before you adhere them to the pot. Leave some space between your paper pieces...this creates the look of faux grout lines. This was so fun and easy to do! I applied 2 topcoats of glossy Mod Podge and it made the paper truly look like ceramic. To finish it off, I just added some cute ric rac trim around the rim.
Anyone out there have oodles and oodles of buttons in your stash?? If so, you may want to consider this project...
I painted my terra cotta pot and then covered the entire thing with buttons! I used tacky glue to adhere them and I think it turned out so CuTe! Consider covering one in nothing but jewels and gems...that could be quite glamorous!
At our meeting, we talked about all the wonderful uses for our Flower Pots. Of course, the obvious...plant flowers, ivy, herbs, etc. But other uses to consider could be re-purposing them to organize all of your stuff in your studio or home office, using them as gift baskets to package goodies or small gifts, cute centerpieces for a backyard cookout to house candles, plastic ware, napkins, etc. We came up with so many ideas...it was great! I also shared with the Stasher's a project that my friend Rhonda Merry and I had created several years ago using various size terra cotta pots. Take a peek....
We took some metal wire and simply strung the pots through the drain holes and wrapped them all over this grapevine wreath. Then added a little greenery to finish it off. I put it out just about every Spring and now I'm considering giving it a fresh look using ...guess what?!?....that's right, my stash of paper scraps...maybe book pages or even sheet music...When I get it completed, I will post before and after pic's for you to see.
Enjoy this Spring season and I hope these projects will inspire you to create some gorgeous garden art of your own!
Stash On...

Another LO designed with my Anthologies Connection "Tres Chic" Kit!

I have had so much fun playing with the goodies in my Anthologies Connection April Kit! Here is a LO that I designed to preserve this wonderful picture of my Mother when she was a child. The "Shabby Chic" paper collection from Prima is so versatile and I love that it looks great with present day photos and vintage photos like this one. Here's a little info about my LO and the goodies that are used on it...
Notice my background cardstock...I used one of the decorative edge chipboard pages that I rec'd in my kit as a mask. I simply laid it on top of my background cardstock and spritzed it with Gold Glimmer Mist. I then removed the chipboard page and waa laa...I had a wonderful image left behind! I also used a decorative edge border punch (EK Success) on some of the edges of my papers and take a look at the adorable Trinket Pin (Maya Road) in the picture below. After inking and misting some of the flowers (Zva, Prima) in my kit, I clustered them together and embellished one of my flowers with a decorative jeweled center (Prima). Tied a little ribbon (Bo Bunny) on my Trinket Pin and ran it thru my paper. In this next picture, you will see the chipboard Thickers (American Crafts) that I used to spell out the year my Mother's photo was taken. They were originally white and to alter them, I simply inked over them with Distress Inks (Olive & Tea Dye -Ranger). I love how they turned out!
In this last shot, I wanted to use the cute heart trim from my kit but it was a pale pink and I wanted something a little more vibrant. To remedy this, I simply misted the trim with Glimmer Mist (Sunshine - Tattered Angels). It turned out fabulous and has a beautiful irridescent shimmery quality now!
I hope that my LO will inspire you to create with the Tres Chic Kit from Anthologies! There are just a few kits left, so don't delay...go purchase your Kit today at http://www.anthologiesbyme.com/.
Have questions about some of the techniques that I used???Just leave a comment and I will be happy to answer you!
Enjoy your day!

When you purchase your kit, be sure to check out the Anthologies Connection Design Team Gallery. There you will find over 60 pic's of the fabulous projects created by our amazingly talented team! Loads of inspiration for you and major creative, scrap-lifting potential!

Here is a layout that I created using my April Connection Kit: This is the first family photo that we had taken after Maddi was born. She was 1yr. in this photo. The beginning of Maddi's life was plagued with some pretty serious medical problems and a major surgery so we just simply were trying to keep things together and we just never had the luxury of time to have a professional family photo taken. The months passed and Maddi quickly recovered from her surgery and so Easter seemed like the perfect time for us to have an outdoor photo made. I just love this sweet picture and every time I see it, it reminds me just how fragile life is and how we can never take our loved ones for granted.

Here is a little info about my design:

First of all, I am a self-confessed INKER! I ink everything....edges of paper, embellishments, even flowers! I just love the added color and dimension that using distress inks adds to my creations. Without it, I just feel like everything looks naked...ha! I also love dimension and texture, so you will see lots of things popped up here and there on my designs and you will see lots of different elements mixed together, such as the fabric, the distressed edges on my papers, the coorugated, the rolled fabric flower, etc. I cut around the birds & roses to create a unique "popped up"embellishment for my lo and then adorned it with additional flowers. I used some of the fabric in my kit to create the lovely rolled flower and added a few of the other blossoms to create this lovely cluster bouquet.
I even used a portion of the box my Connection Kit came in and tore away the top layer to expose the coorugate. I then inked it heavily with Olive Distress Ink (Ranger). I used another piece of my fabric and simply knotted and pinked the edges and adhered to my lo. I lightly applied a few Crystal Stickles on the fabric to add a sparkly effect to my knotted fabric and to the bird icon on my paper.
I truly love it when I can create with found treasure so I was quick to add my vintage music paper to my design! The punched book page butterflies practically fly right off the page when you fold them and adhere them only in the center of the body. This adds great dimension!

I hope you enjoy this lo and that it will inspire you to use the beautiful contents of your April Connection Kit to re-create something similar for yourself! Don't wait another second, purchase your Anthologies Connection Kit today!
Will post another creation soon...
Tracy :)
